I needed an ultrasound the same day and the front desk found me a slot within an hour. Dr Carter was calm and thorough and explained every finding in plain words. I will definitely come back.

I came with joint pain that had been bothering me for months. Dr Lee listened carefully, ordered only the tests that were needed and gave me a clear plan. Two months later I feel much better.

We see Dr Brooks with both of our children. She is patient, kind and never rushes. The kids are not afraid to come here, which says a lot.

Questions and answers

Which tests can I take at the clinic?
MedCentre offers more than 1,500 lab tests, from routine blood counts, biochemistry and urinalysis to specialised hormone panels, tumour markers, allergy tests and more. The full list with prices is in the Lab tests section.
Do I need to book in advance?
Samples are taken every day, including weekends and public holidays, from 7:00 to 12:00 at all three branches: Station Road, Harbour Road and Riverside Avenue. Please book ahead so you can come at your time without waiting.
Which tests need an empty stomach?
Most blood tests: blood count, biochemistry, glucose, lipid profile and some hormone tests. Usually you should not eat for at least 8 hours before the sample; the front desk will give exact instructions when you book.
Can I drink water before a blood test?
Yes, still water is fine and even helpful: it does not affect results and makes the blood draw easier. Avoid tea, coffee, juice and fizzy drinks before the test.
How do I collect a urine sample?
For a urinalysis, collect a midstream sample of morning urine in a clean or sterile container after washing.
Wash with warm water, without antibacterial or disinfecting products. Women are advised to use a sterile tampon.
Start urinating into the toilet for 2–3 seconds, then collect about 30–50 ml in the container and finish in the toilet. The container should not touch your skin.
Women should not take this test during their period. If the test is urgent, use a sterile tampon and wash carefully.
Can I get tested while taking medication?
Some medicines can affect certain results, so tell your doctor what you take. In most cases you can be tested without stopping treatment, but a few markers need a short break.
Can I give blood with a cold or after exercise?
A cold or hard exercise temporarily changes blood values, so routine tests are best postponed until you recover, unless the test is meant to diagnose the current illness.
Can I get tested during my period?
Most blood tests can be taken on any day of the cycle. Some hormone tests are best done on certain days; your doctor or the front desk will tell you when you book. Women should not take this test during their period. If the test is urgent, use a sterile tampon and wash carefully.
From what age do you test children?
MedCentre tests children from birth. Little patients get a comfortable setting, and blood is taken by nurses experienced with children.
When will my results be ready?
It depends on the test: many results are ready the next day, while cultures and specialised tests take longer. You will be told the exact time when you give your sample.
